Crysis 2 Campaign Mode: A PC Game Review: An Ode to Prophet

Crysis 2 is a“high-breed” game that will make you wish stealth mode lasts forever, but then again... where is the fun in that :D.

Crysis 2 is a first person shooter game that follows the story of Prophet but this time all havoc happens in New York City. You must carry on his legacy and save mankind from destruction.

The Gameplay and Features

Crysis 2 is the sequel to Crytek’s Crysis. The story follows a soldier named Alcatraz who is in a mission to rendezvous with another team in New York. The world is at chaos because the “squid – term used by soldiers in”or “CEPH – term used by the scientists” (the nasties encountered in “Crysis” only this time they are walking and not hovering with badass armor set) have spread an infection throughout the populace, Hargreave-Rasch company is looking for antidotes but to no avail.
You will start in a Submarine travelling in the Hudson River doing a rendezvous mission for Dr. Nathan Gould. The rendezvous went bad as Alcatraz (you) would start off to escape a burning submarine. This would also serve as your movement tutorial. After being so aptly surviving the destruction, Prophet, transferred his armor to you and that means, sorry fella you have to fight whether you like it or not. The next episode would then be your battleplay and tactics tutorial and then you are on your own. Now you will get to experiment on your armor as you progress thru the story. Your first major missions would be continuing your mission to help Dr. Gould. But before you can reach Gould you have to do some errands for him. One is collecting alien substance for experiments. This would be your first personal encounter with the squids as you are ordered to explore the alien pods left behind wreckage. Your first encounters would be with melee squids, squids that would run at you and ram you to the floor. Second request is deleting and destroying data in his previous lab as the special ops (CELL soldiers) sent there would be retrieving data but before arriving there you have to pass thru NY highways where you would be introduced to your suit’s thermal sensor. Once you accomplish this you get to see Gould. Seeing Gould is only one part of the whole gameplay, there are still missions that would ask you to destroy squid towers by inserting your body to the system, talk about clean work right! This is where you will encounter new types of squids the Gunners, the Golem Squids, and the Tripod (:D). These are not the actual terms as I only named them based on their weapon and appearance. You would also need to escort civilians out of N.Y thru a train but then again these nasties. You would also be meeting with your suits creator Dr. Hargreave who is actually in a certain state you would never think of in the PRISM. You would also be meeting your ultimate “human” nemesis Lockheart, who orders the CELL soldiers to destroy your very existence. Your helpers in this game are Chino, your squadmate, Barclay and of course Gould.

This is you updating your weapons who said shotguns cannot have silencers?!!

Yes! You can detach the turret and use it as sub for your pistol.

Wonder where the other tentacles are? Beat one and find out.

The Verdict

Crysis 2 is definitely the game to go to if you are into the first person shooter genre. It reminds me so much of Half Life 2. I can say that in weapons category Half Life 2 has really good set of equipments but Crysis 2 does not disappoint either. Its military weapon set is really good and it gives the game a sense of reality since in wars you really have no choice but to scavenge every little weapon your co-soldiers drop when they bite the dust. There are certain weapons that are made especially for the game like the energy blaster. Though I can say that you can practically survive and finish the game with using just your M12 NOVA (the basic pistol you will see throughout the game) just place your shots right and you’re off, but I think offering more weapons would give this game another up in reviews. Another good thing about this game is the ability to switch your nanosuit abilities with just pressing buttons, unlike its predecessor, where you need to press the mouse wheel to change from cloaking to armor. This is helpful with certain missions where you need to switch quickly to cloak mode. The same goes with modifying your weapons and nanosuit perks. The gameplay also gives you freedom to interact with objects in the game like throw objects and also do stealth kills. It also does not rob you off the background actions where you can see what is happening around and plan your move in advance. So this game really kick alien butt...sci-fi movie style. :D

My Score
9/10 - Amazing
